In the 1880’s, a cowboy left a Winchester Model 73 rifle leaning against a tree in the high Nevada desert. Over 130 years later, the rifle was found undisturbed, leaning against the same tree.

Inspired by that actual discovery, The Forgotten Winchester envisions the story of the rifle and the cowboy that may have owned it.

The cowboy and his rifle’s path to the tree starts with a tragedy at the young man's farm. That puts the young cowboy on a journey as he traveled the Old West, working on one of the last big cattle drives, battling storms, open prairies, dangerous river crossings, and bandits.

The cowboy’s travels include a mysterious connection to a Shoshone family and a cave, culminating in the rifle that was left leaning against the tree, undiscovered for more than 130 years.

This story is inspired by the discovered rifle which is now displayed in the Great Basin National Park in Nevada.
